S&P Global Ratings and DIFC’s 16th Annual Islamic Finance Conference to explore the outlook for Islamic finance in 2026–2027

Dubai, October 1, 2026: S&P Global Ratings and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the leading financial hub for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region will host the 16th Annual Islamic Finance Conference on Wednesday 7 October 2026, at The Atrium, Level 2, Gate District, DIFC, Dubai. Registration and networking will open at 8:30am, with the general session running from 8:30am to 1pm.
The sixteenth Islamic Finance Conference will explore the outlook for the Islamic finance industry in 2026-2027, including the opportunities and challenges shaping its future growth. The programme will also provide a deeper examination of the GCC’s evolving capital markets and credit environment.

The programme will open with remarks from Alya Al Zarouni, COO, DIFC Authority, and Hadi Melki, Managing Director and Regional Head, Middle East, S&P Global Ratings. Sessions will examine key factors influencing sovereign credit fundamentals, economic outlooks and global energy market developments.
The panel, “Islamic Finance 2026–2027: Navigating Rough Waters,” will examine the key opportunities and challenges facing the sector. Panellists include Basheer Ahmad, Senior Manager, Markets at the Dubai Financial Services Authority; Abdul Kadir Hussain, Partner and Head of Fixed Income Asset Management at Arqaam Capital; Ali Taufeeq, Head of Sukuk Financing and Interim Head of DCM at HSBC; and Dr. Mohamed Damak, Head of Islamic Finance at S&P Global Ratings. The discussion will be moderated by Rawan Oueidat, Director, Corporate Ratings at S&P Global Ratings.
Further sessions will cover GCC credit trends across banks and corporates; the outlook for the takaful sector; credit developments in Saudi Arabia; and Islamic finance in Central Asia and the Caucasus.
